Default Yet Another Tranny Actin Up

First off, it has about 262,000 mile on it.
While Driving it shifts fine throughout the gears. How ever, when accelerating if i let off in second gear it surges before it up shifts. This is the only problem im having and am wondering if it is a sensor or something or if the band needs adjusted. Any input would be great thanks.

Hmm, sounds similar to what mine did before I got it rebuilt (mine was on the 1-2 shift though).

I say get the bands adjusted, and maybe replace the gov. solenoid/transducer, but dont expect it to last too much longer....262k is definitely at the end of a stock 46re's lifespan... in fact, I'm surprised it lasted that long.

I'd say mine lasted 15k miles after it started doing this--and that was with me babying it. Then, once I started getting p1740 (think that's it) codes, I knew she was a goner. It was a pretty steep slope from this (your current) small problem to many larger problems....failure to shift while cornering [yes the fluid was full], flare shifting every gear, then I had to start manually shifting

I knew this was going to come up. He has a 1994 which has the 46RH, so no tranny codes, no solenoids ect.

Start with a kickdown band adjustment simply because it is easy and the kickdown band is used in 2nd gear.

Might want to adjust the TV cable too.

Other than a fluid change and the above that really the only thing you can do on the older trannies. Is that tranny original? Thats a good life for any automatic especially a dodge.

whoops... sorry bout that, perhaps I should pay more attention LOL..... though I was under the impression that the governor pressure solenoid/transducer was present amongst both of the 46 models... learn something new everyday I guess

Changed in 96, with OBDII I think.

All 46R? transmissions have the O/D, and TCC solenoid though.

Yep went to 46RE in 96.

Yeah all A518's (46RH/E) have the OD and TCC solenoid. That rarely goes bad though compared to the governor solenoid in the 46RE.
