idle/breathing problem
i have a 95 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.9(360) automatic. when i start it it will idle fine for about a min or two then starts to make a hissing noise at the airfilter area, noise will start low and gets louder like it aint getting air starts to idle rough and slowly die, but if i give it gas it will idle back up high and then back down to normal. any help would be greatly appreciated!
thank you

Remove the throttle body and all of the sensors connected to it. The one in the back is the IAC. Clean the TB thoroughly with carb cleaner or the like. Make sure to clean the hole the IAC goes in. Clean the shaft and end of the IAC... careful, if you force the shaft in or out, it's ruined. Reassemble... done.
dont use carb cleaner i know that will eat your orings on the sensors and what not but i would go buy the tb gasket and they have some cleaner cant remember what it is sorry but ment for cleaning sensors like this. but i would just take the whole thing off clean it up real good. be carefull of the pintle on the iac dont wanna damage it. im sure i left somethin out so please anyone else fill in
The cleaner you are thinking of is throttle body cleaner... it is made of the same stuff (namely acetone and petroleum distillates) as carb cleaner. I've never had carb cleaner eat up an o-ring, and I have cleaned my TB many times.
I forgot to mention that you'll need a new TB gasket ($2). Do not reuse the old one.

just take the air cleaner housing off the throttle body, then take the TB off by removing the 4 bolts, then u will have to take the 3 bolts holding the throttle cables to the side of the TB off. then it will come right off. you IAC motor is the ons thats on the backside of the TB when its installed. so clean the TB and butterflies good, then unbolt the IAC from the TB and pull it out and clean it, and reinstall it all.
