Default here one for ya

i was talking with a muffler guy today about putting a high flow cat on my truck. he told me that stock cats are some of the best performing cats around. he said that theres no way a high flow magnaflow is gonna out perform my stock cat there is a reason that the stocker is alomost 1000 bucks vs a magnaflow at $80 i dont think this is true. i think a magnaflow would kick the crap out of the stock but id like to hear opinions. any input is helpfull thanks

He makes more money when you buy a stocker compared to an after market. Buy your own and bring it to him. If he wony let you bring your own, find a new mechanic.

It may not be better but it is cheaper and Magnaflow ain't know for making crap.

IMO: the best performing cat is a gutted one

Back before I hollowed mine out, I was kicking around the idea of a high-flow... My muffler guy told me much the same thing that yours told you.

I think the OP was talking about having his stocker removed and replaced with a magnaflow; and was told by mr. muffler man that it would serve no purpose due to the stocker being the superior cat to begin with. Thus, the muffler man actually lost money by telling him this.

That may be so, I still stand by my original post.

I personally went with the 3" Magnaflow chome High-flow wizz-bang cat for $80. I didnt want to see the MIL all the time. The main difference I found (after quite a bit of research) was the life expectancy of all the aftermarket $100 cats. Your stocker is designed for around 80-100k, while the aftermarket may last only half that, say 40-50k.

Even so, you can buy 10 Magnaflows for the cost of 1 stocker. just put some good ole stainless clamps on either end of your cat for ease of installation.

If you do the non-fouler trick, you'll never see a MIL
