ABS and Brake light????
I have a new glich....i was seeing the "check engine lite" coming on periodically, now, i have an ABS lite and Brake lite staying on and my speedometer isn't working??????????? Any ideas?????
I had a similar problem on my '98 Ram. At first, the speedo would register until I got above 20 mph, then it quit working altogether. I also had the ABS light come on at the same time. The problem for me was the speed sensor that's on the rear differential. I don't want to tell you that's your problem, but that's the first thing I would check. If I remember correctly, it's the only sensor on the rear differential, and it wasn't very hard to replace at all.
Thanks, I took the sensor out and looked at it. I wondered if it could be a bad connection. I took and sprayed wd40 on the connector. I thought maybe that would clean it. I put it back together and installed it. NO help. I guess i am going to have to go buy a new one and install it and see what happens. I wonder what and if you should replace the rear differential oil. I never have but i would imagine that is just gear oil isn't it. 80-90 wt oil??
It is just gear oil, but I'm not sure on the weight. Also, if your truck has a posi rear end in it, there's an additive you need as well. if you go to an auto parts store, they should be able to get you what you need and answer any other questions you may have
I just called the dealer ship because the speed sensor i am looking for isn't sold by any auto parts stores i have checked with. I have checked 5 or so. The dealer has one for $39.95. That is not too cheap if you ask me. If it fixes it ........it will still be cheaper than having a mechanic do it.

It seems I'm having the same probs outta my 98 ram 1500 with a 3.8L and stickshift. At first the abs and brake light came on...then the speedo wouldn't work under 30 m.p.h, then she started being even more troublesome...she started dying when ya came to a stop. When I made it back to my home (about a 50 mile drive) and tried to start her again...nothing...nada...zip!...funny thing tho...she had plenty of jiuce in the battery and the alternator was doing fine...She'll push-start, but that's the only way to get her going again....HELP!!!!!!
is there a clutch switch that could be bad? if your truck needs to have the clutch pressed in to start it, the switch could have gone bad and there is an open circuit in the starting circuit because of it...
another possiblilty is the ignition switch has a problem...

did you get yours fixed? Same thing happened to me this weekend, would've spent mega bucks at the dealer if I hadn't checked this site first. Mine was the rear diff vehicle speed sensor (01 ram). Lights went out right after I replaced the sensor, however mine had a check-engine light that hasn't gone off yet. Anyone else have a check-engine light due to the sensor? Or is it just coincidence that I have a separate issue?
