My concern would be loosening some up and letting it get into the oiling system, could clog something up...Kill the motor.

laugh if you will, but I modified an attachment for the shop vac to be about the diameter and length of a pencil, and vacuumed that crap out of there.. there wasn't a lot, but what was, was no more when I finished.. what wasn't vacuumed was wiped with a rag- and then re-vacuumed to make sure there was no lint left behind..

when it was buttoned up, it was clean as a whistle..

Laugh? Nothing but respect for someone who makes a tool to fit the job. I'd like to see what your attachment looks like.

HA!! I tossed that thing when the job was done.. it was pretty nasty..

all it was was the skinny attachment (i guess for cracks and such?).. I cut it with a dremmel wheel from where it tapers from the hose connection to be the same width/diameter to the end.. and then I wrapped it with tape.. it worked just fine..

I'm in the middle of this right now. My valley is remarkably clean, although my plenum was blown, VERY blown. Just planned on using shop towels.

At 133k I didn't have any sludge at all when I did my plenum. I thought I'd see some, but couldn't find any. The PO must have done a lot of oil changes.
