Default Funny shifts

I bought my current truck back in January, its a 2001 ram 1500 5.9 auto. I was told that the transmission was rebuilt about 2000 miles ago, and it has been driving fine until now. Over the past week or so I have noticed that it takes a while to shift out of 3rd gear(or possibly 2nd) as I let off the throttle. While it does this the motor drones really loud as if its working too much.

Just today its been having problems shifting. Sometimes I would reach 5000 RPM before shifting into 2nd. Whenever it does this I can here something (I believe the transmission) whining the entire time until I reach 3rd. All of these problems occur randomly, sometimes it drives fine but during the same trip it has problems.

The trans fluid is fine and everything motor related seems ok. It seems to me as if this is trans problem, what do you all think?

I just got home for the weekend, so I need to figure out if this is an easy fix or if I need to take my other truck back to college. Thanks for the help.

Any codes? I have seen the P1740 code with those symptoms, TCC lockup solenoid.

The only codes I have were for a missfire/o2 sensor problem that I had prior. Nothing other than that.

You can't really tell whats going on in there till you drop the pan. I know these trannys are known for govenor sensor and solenoid probs. They pretty much control how the trans shifts.

Could be a bad band adjustment too.

Agreed. I would drop the pan, change fluid and filter, adjust the bands, and maybe even replace the governor pressure sensor, AND solenoid. Just because it was rebuilt, does NOT imply they used quality parts.

Before you do anything like dropping your pan and messing with your bands read this.

This is usually the reason why this happens. I had the same issue, I read this and did what it said. Now it shifts fine.

How much did you end up adjusting it?
