Default Before I adjust my TV cable

I recently purchased a 1994 Ram with approx 15000 miles on a rebuilt tranny, which I assume to be a 46rh. I was driving the other day and had to "floor it" and swerve to miss an idiot on a motorcycle. All of a sudden my tranny wont shift out of 1st. I have reverse and 1st only.

The other day I drove it and got it to 4000 rpm and it shifted to second and through rest of the gears fine. Now it wont do it again.

Just wanted to know if I could mess anything up if I get the TV cable too far out of adjustment. I know my way around an engine ok, but have no experience in transmissions.

Thanks for any input.

Its an RH. There is no governor solenoid.

Fluid level might be an issue, but, I agree that the TV cable is not the root cause of the problem.

tv cable will just make it shift firmer or softer depending on where its adjusted too. wont play a factor on it being stuck in 1st, unless its wayyyyyyyyy out of wack.

I probably shouldnt post this.... Try at your own risk.

When im having mechanical governor problems and they are mounted on the tailshaft. While going down the road over 55 or 60 mph, stab the shifter into park a few times quickly. The parking pawl wont be able to engage with the output shaft spinning that fast, but will rattle against it, potentially freeing up any stuck governor valves.

Is that the trans technician equivalent of the Italian tuneup?
