Default Camshaft Swap

Ok so I convinced my dad to let me go through and fix the valve cover leak and take of the intake to put in a hughes kit, also convinced him to let me do timing gears instead of a chain.

Since Im this far might as well go a tad bit more and throw the cam I have had my eye on since I started driving.

Looking at the 210x from KRC performance, intake and valve covers are coming off for the rest of the work, I figure rockers and pushrods need to come out.

My question is do the heads need to come off too....I dont think they do but Im not sure, and need to have everything ordered and ready to go to make it a quick change.

If anybody has any info toward swap and a parts list I would appreciate it. Gonna do some more research and figure out if I even want to spend the extra money on this.

Oh yea dont need any suggestions to get 1.7rrs I know what they are and dont want them

Heads don't need to come off it's just a pia to swap valve springs with the heads on the motor. They do make special tools to do it though and it makes it a tad easier. You're not really going that big on a cam, mind if I ask why not 1.7's? I agree the cam would be better in a sense just alot more pricey.

My bad didnt read the specs for the right cam. Thats a pretty healthy cam. Do you have a tune on it now? That stick will definately need one.

Timing gears? Why? Lotsa money for little to no gain. A good double roller timing set will be much cheaper, last just as long, and not be nearly as noisy.

Not sure how much your computer will like the new cam.....

Yeah a good tune would be a must. I think a good set timing gears are around 300 or so.

From what I have figured it wont be too much more for the cam over rockers(since Im already tearing the motor down this far), im looking for the sound of the cam, and overall specs.

where as 1.7's increase the lift of the stock cam

210x spec 210/220 512/512 110

Also the cam can be ran with stock springs and quite a few people have done it without problems so stock springs will stay untill the money comes for new heads

Um from what I have read everyone suggest the chain over gears due to price and noise.....well I found a gear set for the same price as a decent chain. Normally the gear set is 150, I found it shipped for around $60

I want the noise and there supposed to be a tad stronger and guess what I wont have to worry about chain slack

Oh yea I have an SCT tuner already if it cant run the cam a quick email and $100 upgrade it will have a tune for it

150 for the gears isn't bad. The ones I found were 300. Sounds like youve done some research on it so I say go for it. Although I would change out springs. That much lift it needs them IMO. You can run all the cam that will fit in the motor on stock springs in theory but it's not really the right way.

http://www.catpep.com/default.asp

Thats a link to the company that makes the gear set

KRC says that the springs will be ok.....If it really comes down to it I can always get Sean to set a rev limiter on the truck if I have a floating problem, but like I said earlier done some research and the Idiots(or people) that have kept stock springs havent had any ill effects.

I know it would be better to step up to some better springs but why put new springs on old heads

Ok Im looking for valve springs to replace my stock ones, If I can find some I will probrably replace them.

Called CompCams and they said they dont make any because we have special heads(f^ckin figures I could walk into autozone and get a set for a chevy), called lunati and they say they have a double spring that will work but will require some head work.

So 2 companys I would have put money on are down and out, I heard somewhere that mopar has performance springs anybody know the part number on the ones I need. Or if anybody knows of anyone else that makes springs for our special heads

Im gonna try some local head shops to see if they can help me out.
