You would hear pre-ignition. Sounds like marbles in a tin can. I wish dodge would have put a bit more thought into the system, and included a knock sensor......

I would rent a gauge from advance, or whomever, and run the compression check again. See what kind of numbers you get.

Also, we had a Dodge truck come in to the shop today with a similar temp problem. It would run hot on the highway but not around town. Turns out the tension on his belt was too loose. Not loose enough to squeal but loose enough that at higher RPM's it wouldn't turn the pump. Just one of those freak things that happens. It was making enough contact that it turned it some just not enough to keep it cool once it was at a higher speed.

I second HeyYou on checking compression again. You would definitely here pinging if that were the case.

So today on my way to work outside temp was 102f so it heated up a little faster even with heater on. the water temp still got around 220f and the faster I went on the freeway the hotter it would get and as I got off the freeway and stuck at a light it went back to 210ish

Yeah you either have a blockage, a pump failing, or like the guy at work today check you belt tension make sure it's good.

I have the exact same problem in my 95. I changed the tstat, checked the fan clutch. Turns out to be blown head gasket. Make sure your coolant isn't getting dirty/grayish/brown color...if so it might be a good idea to check for a blown head gasket. Good luck.

Well magic happened and the misfire went away on it's own...

As for head gasket the oil and water are both normal there's no smoke in the exhaust at all. Could it still be a head gasket?

I was thinking I would try replacing upper and lower rad hoses, water pump, put in a 16psi cap and 180f tstat and flush the system real good and see what that does...
