I have noticed the same thing over the past few month, but only when the engine is running. Did you figure it out? I would rather know something before I *****-nilly replace the two canisters that are mounted on the frame.
All it takes is ONE, Boss! I found my answer on another forum, but I'll post what I found.
It was a hose that had popped off the top of the Round Evap Canister. Reached up and felt around, found it and put it back on. Viola! annoying problem solved.

Given how old the hoses are..... probably wouldn't be a bad idea to inspect all of them...... Dry rot is not a pretty thing.

I replaced my hoses when I had the bed off the truck several years ago. Those hoses were in pretty bad shape given their age. Also had to replace some of the steel lines that ran against the frame, as they were rusted.
