Default Shifting issues?

hey guys im new here, i just purchased a 1996 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.9L and i love it! but something ive noticed is that when i start it it wont move when i put it in drive, it will move when i put it in 2nd drive, and to reverse i have to put it in 2nd drive let it move a little then put it in reverse, and and also if it dosent start i put it in neutral or drive and it will start, im not a truck expert or a mechanic but is it a transmission issue or something else? thanks!!

Need to make sure the linkage is right first, and take it from there. My guess is though, that getting the linkage adjusted correctly will fix it for ya.
