Default Problem Solved

Updating the thread in case someone has a similar problem.

Solution was to replace the new HP power steering line with a Dodge factory line. The factory line is FAR superior in dampening the hydraulic turbulance noise.

The original line I used as a replacement came from Advanced Auto, but honestly I looked at a NAPA line and it was almost identical. Factory line is twice as expensive, BUT 100% worth it in this case.

There is definitely something designed into the factory line to supress noise. And in the specific case of the Hemi application the pump puts out significant pressure and susequent hyraulic noise.

In some 25+ years of working on trucks/cars I've never run into this before. Hope someone benifits from my experience.

Cool, thank you for the update. Could you post pics of the original line, and the replacement you got from advance? I am kinda curious.

I've recently run into the same problem. Steering gear was bad, so it had to be replaced anyways. You don't happen to have the part # or link to the high pressure line. I've still got a little noise when the steering wheel is idle. It's not much, but enough to know that it's there, and that bothers me.

I just ordered this:: http://www.partswebsite.com/pollardm...118&type=parts

First one on the page for 1500 mega cab. Unfortunately they don't show the part number, but it should be a factory mopar part from these guys?

They say genuine Mopar parts on their homepage. If you dealt with them in the past, its probably good. If not, i would call and ask, verify part numbers and then order. (then check with sealer to see if it is really cheaper. I think I'll bookmark their site for future reference.

I havent dealt with then before, and im located in canada. They ask for your VIN on checkout to verify the correct part though, so I think I'm ok.

98ViperGTS; It would be a great help if you took the time to fill out your signature so members here can help you with info. We have no idea what year truck, motor, 4x4 or 4x2 you are working on.

Default Me too!

I just had this identical system pop up for me as well. My truck’s only 1.5 years old.
I drove one morning to get bagels for breakfast, parked the truck, came out started it up and the problem was instantly there.
Hissing whenever there is no load on the steering wheel – or brakes. If I turned the wheel or stepped on the brake, the noise went away.
I’ve been driving for a week or so like that, no change. I’m taking it into the stealer Friday, I’ll try and drop some causal hints from what you guys said here. I’ll let you know.
