i dont remember what all the cylinders were at but they were in spec. and when the number 1 cylinder is at tdc the rotor is pointing at the number 1 spark plug tower on the distributer soooo... doesnt that mean that the timing is ok
there is a notch in the dist housing that the rotor should be pointing at. I think there is also a 'bump', or 'dent' in the block, or manifold... that they need to be lined up with as well, but, I can't find that particular article at the moment.....
If you still have a mopar cam sensor(ignition module)hall effect(thingy under the cap with a pigtail). I hate that there is not 2 places that have the same name for a single part.......but anyway,the original one has a line molded into it with a marking of CYL 1. The starting point for setting the dist is putting the engine on TDC and then adjust the dist base so that the rotor is pointing right down that line. This is the starting point.
If you loosen the dist so that you can just barely turn it, you will feel the detent by turning it back and forth. To get it timed accurately,you have to have it sync'd.
But playing around with the injection timing can acctually improve performance quite a bit.
looking back through this post, did you have the dist out? Is it possible that you have it 180 deg. out .
This is easy to miss,because if you did the timing chain and had the marks lined up thinking that the motor should be on TD 1 you would be putting the dist in 180 deg. out.
no i never had the distributor out of the motor. Does this sound like it is a timing issue tho? would that somehow make exhaust come out the throttle body?
