I've used the prestone super flush. I guts out worked okay, didn't have much in the system to remove.

Whatever you use just make sure you get every bit rinsed out. Some of that stuff is highly corrosive if left in there to circulate.

So I took out my stat to see if that made any difference. I was starting to believe that maybe there wasn't enough clearance in the stat housing on my Air Gap. Well, the temp never went over 145*. It would fluctuate slowly (freeway/street). Would that necessarily mean I have a bad stat even though it's new? I'm gonna clean out the cooling system then a flush/fill anyways.

It's not uncommon to get a bad stat. What brand are you running?

Oh I know it. I got 3 bad stats in a row about 2 years ago. It's a FailSafe. I always run those.

I've never had a failsafe work for me. Everytime I've tried one they didn't work right. I always use Stant or Murray.

Murry bought the rights to the fail safe patent. The top of the line murry stats have the fail safe "technology" built in.

I have a Murray in mine now, I've never had a failsafe I got from autozone work. I prefer the stant superstat as HeyYou said but I don't wanna drive 30 miles out of my way.

I put a failsafe 192 in last summer when I did the plenum. Truck runs cooler with it. No issues with failsafe over here.
