axle stuck in 4 wheel drive
i got 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 and the transmisson is in 2 wheel drive.. i took the front drive shaft off and the front axle is stuck in 4 wheel drive. i believe it is a vacum problem but can't figure it out, can anyone help?
one way to see if its a vacuum problem is by doing the following...
Go to the CAD housing on the pass side back part of the front axle...there will be 2 little hoses going to it, they are about an inch long....take them off, and with the vehicle on, there should be vacuum on 1 of the lines...move your shifter to 4x4 and the vacuum should switch lines...if not, you may need to invest in a Posi-Lok kit....
Also you can take off the CAD housing...you wll need a new gasket though...and move the collar towards the right, that collar is what locks the front axle together...try moving it out of the way, to disengage the axle....if you cant get it to move, swap the vacuum lines on the CAD, basically reverse the two lines, so the suction will pull it back...
Its hard to explain, but try those and if you need further assistance just ask.
