Default Leaf Spring Conversion With Pictures

If you dont like what you see i dont want to hear about it. i no not everybody is a fan of big lifts.

So i started on my project today. ive seen a few people do this and ive always wanted to do it...









obviously not done. still have alot to do. steering, rear springs, drive shaft, gears and tires, and eventually an axle swap. What do ya think?

wow ! haven't seen anything this interesting on this sure in awhile! lol

but your gonna need a really big tire to make the truck look good with that much lift

and with that big of a tire your gonna need some pretty stout axles

and on top of that your 280 HP v8 is gonna be struggling to move.

but good luck and post a bunch of pics

im going to get 40'' tires, ballistic fab high steering kit, whiplash 10'' rear lift springs, 4.88 gears, reindexing ring for transfer case, new front drive shaft.

As it sits now, best i can tell, i gained about 15'' of suspension lift and it already had a body lift on it.

280 HP is wrong. 2001 came with 235 HP (at the CRANK) and 280 ft/lbs. You got HP and TQ mixed up.

ABOUT THE PROJECT: Good luck. I hope that you stay within your planned budget. Although, with that big of a lift, I would not think that 4.88 is enough gearing. Might want to go taller, like in the high 5s.

Most of the big rigs I have seen were diesels or big blocks (454ci). Might want to slap in an RV cam to that engine to produce the TQ needed to move the tires:

Better yet, stroke it to 390 WITH a RV cam. As stated in the above article, it would PUKE torque. You can PM billy and he will hook you up with a guy at crane cams to grind that RV cam.

Also, my truck i the same color. Great color!

Good luck on the steering. I hear that is the hardest part to dial in.

thanks for the input. im ordering a drop pitman arm from top gun customz thats good up to an 8'' lift and the ballistic fab steering kit tuesday. the steering might be a little tricky to get setup and ill see about springs rear to. for right now im just looking to get it rolling. eventually i want to swap to 2500 axles. but thatll be later down the road...
