Default 3500 Dually with a 5.9 Magnum gasser??

Im in the market for a one ton dually. Going on my own with a backhoe. I came across a 01 club cab Ram 3500 dually with 64000 miles on it. The thing looks mint. No gooseneck ball, it looks unused. The catch is it's got a 5.9L magnum in it. 5 speed manual, 4 11 rear end gears.

I thought this was odd. I've looked at about 50 so far, same except with the cummins.

I know the cummins would obviously be Ideal, all around, but I can get ahold of this for less than half what a comparable cummins equipped dually goes.

1. I know the fuel milage is gonna suck
2. Not nearly the pulling power of the diesel.

I'm wondering about power. I'm going to be pulling a 25 ft gooseneck flatbed with an older John deer 310 backhoe on it.
I've had a ram with a 318 in it, but no experience whatsoever with a 360.

Is this thing gonna be a dog or what???

It'll probaly pull it but it's not going to hold a candle to a cummins.

My 5.9 Gasser Ram 2500 pulling my Dakota Drag Truck on a 18' flat bed car trailer is a dog...I can't imagine pulling what you have planned.

Spend the money, get the diesel. For the weight you want to pull, the gas engine just isn't gonna cut it.

I didn't even know they made a 3500 with a 5.9 Magnum...That's a cruel joke right there.

Guys, I realize a 5.9 cummins is the way to go in a perfect world. I've driven a 3/4 ton 5.9 for my job every day for the past two years. Great truck. But I can't get one with these miles, in this shape, for this money.

Getting by starting out my own business is my objective. One day, I will have a 30,000 dollar one ton dually.

I'm just wondering, if anyone out here has or has had one configured like this, that they've pulled a trailer with considerable weight with.

Thanks for the responses and advice, I'm still thinking about it.
