I'm just curious, but how would a flat color fade? I could understand a semi-gloss or high gloss, but flat? Flat black would be pretty awesome though. I always wanted to get a Grand National T Type and paint it flat black.

Flat black spray paint has a tendency to "whiten" when it's left in direct sun alot. You can go to your local automotive paint supplier and buy hotrod black. It's flat and designed to not have any gloss.

We use regular black auto paint and hit it with a matte clear afterward when painting motorcycles. Most of the reputable brands allow you to adjust how flat you want your clear to be by how much of the one chemical you mix in - too flat and it will go white upon curing, too little and it will look satin or gloss. Any good brand won't fade - assuming you put a clear coat over it.

As cool as a flat black paint job looks, its a big pain to keep clean. Best way we recommend to clean it is to use a windex solution and a microfiber cloth.

We used kirker hot rod black on our 3000gt. It is hard to lay it right if your are looking for a flawless finish. It will fade if you park it out in the sun. If it is garaged, under a airport, etc you should be fine.

I should have added to my first post - if you want to protect your flat black with a rattle can matte finish, lowes sells a can labeled just that: "Matte Clear". You'll need lots and need to really spray a good fog of it, but it works well.
