How often do you guys change the filter and fluid?
I change mine about once a year. mostly to see what the **** has broken and fallen into the pan. install a drain plug and it makes it easy to change. advance has a good kit with a rubber gasket.

I am going to get a deep pan that has a drain in it. The only thing is if I am going to change the fluid i am also going to change the filter. I would make it easer to take off the pan though.

Is there any way to drain the Tc?
no.
you can disconnect a cooler line and pour in new fluid while it pumps out old, but its messy as hell and unnecessary if you change it regularly.
after removing the fitter, you can temporarily put the pan back on and let it drain for several hours and get out more fluid.

So there is no way to get all the fluid out of the trans?

And if the trans is working correctly there is no need to adj the bands correct?
correct. unless you know what you are doing, leave the bands alone.

That is what I thought but a few people told me the last time when I was in the trans I should have adj the bands. Thanks

Band adjustment is every 30K miles on schedule B..... which a fair few of us fall into.

My truck has 86,000 on it and I would say they have never been adjusted.

You can either A. Take apart the transmission, or B. Do a flush.

To get the most out while in the driveway, you can drop the pan, then loosen the vb bolts to drain even more and then put the pan on loosely overnight. That should drain about 10-11 quarts. Just be sure to put the vb back on at 100 inch/lbs. If you do this yearly, you should never really be in fear of old fluid in the trans, it'll eventually all be replaced at some point.

I change the fluid every 24,000 miles and adjust the bands every 48,000. Filter? I change the remote filter with every fluid change, and the internal filter with every second band adjustment -- with the remote filter, the only reason to change the internal is so it doesn't fall apart due to age.

To do a full fluid replacement all ya gotta do is open the return cooling line, stuff on a piece of hose directed at a bucket, and start the engine. Pour the new fluid in as fast as the old pumps out, and when the color changes shut 'er down, reconnect the cooler line, and top up as necessary. Nuthin' to it. If you have a remote filter it's easier to do because you can just plumb your drain hose on the outlet, and then when it's done swap out the old filter for a new one.

Band adjustment is factory recommended periodic maintenance. Neglect it at your own peril.

What the hell does that have to do with anything? I don't just have a few thousand laying around to put a new trans in my truck from doing a flush and plugging things up.
I might try to pull the cooler line and do it that way.
