Default 285 tire rub?

2001 Ram 1500 4X4 5.9L

I finally was able to pick up a set of the off road 17X8 wheels that I've wanted ever since I bought the truck new. I'm looking for tires to go on them right now, and was wondering if anyone has had 285's on the off-road wheels. Either 285/70 or 75. I'm talking about these.

Stock size from Dodge was 275. I know that the 285's will fit on the wheel, I'm just worried about possible rub. I don't think it should be a problem on the 4 wheel drive, but perhaps on the 2 wheel. I just want to make sure before I spend $1000.00 on tires. I don't want any rubbing and I don't want to cut anything. Thanks for any opinions.

You should be ok. If you rub anything it will be the control arms. Then all you have to do is adjust the stops so you can't turn quite that sharp.

285 70 17 won't rub anything with those rims.
285 70 17 tires that are re-treads will rub the plastic on the back of the front fender if you have the wheel turned and hit a bump because they're actually 33" tall instead of 32.8" tall like new tires. I'm not sure if 285 75 17 will rub the fender or not.

Thanks guys. I think 285 is probably getting close to the limit, so at least I know I'll have some options other than cutting the whole fender well out.

Sheriff - that's too funny. You live in the same county that I do. LOL Small world.

moze, I'm surprised that I've never noticed your truck on the road because I tend to notice other Rams when I'm driving around. I know mine's easy to spot because of the brush guard with the 4 off road lights, the front plate and the led light bar under the tailgate.

I'm usually on a motorcycle in Lee county. I'm up on the hawkins ave side, so when I drive I'm usually getting on the hwy to go north. I just don't spend a lot of time around here I guess

Yeah, haven't seen you around. You must be hanging out in the woods somewhere. I'll keep my eye out.

I'm actually down toward Cameron. I mostly drive from just past Lemon springs, up US1 then around where it meets 421. That or around Jonesboro and where Walmart is at. The best chance of spotting my truck used to be at Lowes or Tractor Supply but that ain't gonna happen any time soon... Stupid tornado.
Have you heard if they're going to open Tractor Supply back up? I heard that they won't open Big Lots again but I haven't heard anything about Tractor Supply.

Tractor supply will reopen - I got a thing in the mail a few weeks ago from them. I'm surprised that Big Lots is giving up.

Awesome. The only thing I got in the mail was a sale ad. That kinda made me mad because the closest one is a bit of a drive for me.
I wasn't too impressed with that Big Lots when it opened where it is at now. The one in Spring Lake is much better.
