You'll need a 5 1/4" base and make an "S" bolt out of 20x1/4" rod. The s bolt gets bent so that out can connect to the hole in the tb and then go up through the hole in the top of the airhat. You can use a paper filter, but the k&n will flow much better.

What do you mean the bottoms don't match up? If you buy the 14x3 from advanced or autozone you will have to be the k&n element separatley. Try it with the paper first. You will also need a 1/2" spacer to clear the tb linkage because advanced and the zone usually only sell 1" drop bases or flat bases.

just take the stock airbox out and leave the original air hat and tube that conects it to the airbox on and get a peace of 3" piping(i usedas 1 10" x 3" stainless exhaust piping) and a 3" universal cone filter , i made a bracket and atached it to the 3"pipe and put it all together and theres my ram air intake for under $50

No, there is no N/A setup that gives noticeable hp gain. It will rev up a bit faster.

^ Exactly. You will notice a little better throttle response, and noise. About it.

the only bad about a 14x3 is that offroading it will pick up more dust and mud(if going through puddles also water).

If you plan hitting puddles or do alot of offroading a spectre or something similar will help kept the filters from getting clogged and will do better than stock because of no restrictions in the pipe and hat.

Only way to get more air than these would be a true ram air which are fairly suseptible to water depending on the setup, or going to a true cold air like s&b which pulls from stock location.

for you a 14x3 or spectre would be fine and it comes down to how you want it to look

How about something like this?

http://www.jegs.com/i/Spectre/865/72...ductId=1203412

Makes the 14x3 guys happy, spectre guys happy....and if you are real good you will make some brakets to run the tubes on either side of your radiator. The you get nice cold air to the engine.

Every intake has its ups and downs. What happens if you are off-roading and drop your passenger side tire down into a hole in some deep water? That nice Spectre or stock air box for that matter is gonna suck water into your engine. If you want the 14x3 and are worried about mud and dirt, go to autozone/oreilleys/napa/whoever and buy a cool 1/4 foam cover made for your air cleaner. Or run paper and just keep a spare. Or just clean your K&N. It really doesn't matter. Just pick one that you like in your engine bay. Personally, I have Hemi Orange Mopar Performance valve covers, a black 14x3 lid with a Hemi Orange Magnum 360 lid cover just like the old Mopar muscle cars. I made the lid out of an old buick lid. Paid $20 for the bottom and bought a paper filter (Magnum 360 lid cover cost me $80 but it adds 20HP).

Decide what you want in your engine bay. Get it. Install it. Ask on here if you need any help. And when you are done, kick back and drink a beer.

I went with the 14X3 last fall because my stock housing was all busted up at the base. Only two small sections of lip were holding it in place.

I don't notice any difference (except for noise) until the RPMs hits 2200 or abouts and the butt-dyno goes, "oooo, nice". Other than that, I haven't put enough miles on the truck since the 14X3 to report accurate mpg's.
