right now i have all stock intake.. i want some power, i can't decide on what to get though.. i dont wanna spend more than 125ish though.. i want to be able to install myself too.. opinions and instructions? ive heard a lot on 14x3.. ive been looking at the 14x3, CAI, and k&n drop in

If you are looking to spend under 125, its a no brainier. 14x3! No other system under $125 is going to benefit you more.

 

Okay. Anyone know exactly how to install a 14x3? Like step By step would be greatly appreciated

well ramsport97 you seem to be a little bias here. as it stands a bias comment is only one sided and not giving the questioner a appropriate answer here. summit sells the spectre cold air intake for less then 125. as for protection from water splashing in the engine bay it does really well, i can attest to the protection level is high. where as the 14x3 has none and i have water spots atop my engine when playing off road and even heavy rains just driving. the air hat has a redisign all you have to do is email or call and spectre will send you the new hat free. it has a relief in the hat for the throttle linkage rotating to reach the 100%wide ope throttle. but each way is less the 125 and well used between a lot of ram owners on here. just look in there signature. just look up spectre cold air intakes if you need more on them around january when it was last rally talked about in depth.

 

So the spectre cai will give me more horses than the 14x3?

 

Not that you would notice..... The spectre unit would be a better application if you off-road your truck though.

It is not a biased comment because I don't even run a 14x3! I run an S&B CAI. However, that costs more than $125. In my opinion the Spectre isn't even a CAI. Sure, it has a "protective heat shield" but I am sure it is also made of metal, just as the CAI tube is. Those will both heat up, and then you have a nice $125 warm air intake. For $45 you can build a nice 14x3 setup that will out perform the Spectre CAI in flow. They will both pull in around the same temperatures. I know this because I have a ScanGuage2 and measured IAT temps on a friends SS/T with the spectre.

If you were mudding, the best setup(s) would be the k&n drop in, S&B, Volant, or custom Snorkel.

Spending under $125 and mainly staying on the street, then 14x3! Besides, if you want to go mudding, it takes less than 5 minutes to pop the stocker back on.

Just my opinion....tatitup if you plan on keeping the truck and want something that will flow as much as the 14x3 and also be cool, check into the S&B and Volant.

 

If I am to understand your message... You want "horse power", but want it on a budget. I am sorry to break the news to you... I've consulted the experts... they all come to one conclusion..... "Horse Power" = $$$.

I struggled with the formula and the calculations for a while. No matter how you do the math, you'll need to drop some cash to get noticable HP. You can do what I did and drop a few bucks here and there to get a few extra ponies at a time. Each extra I add gives me a few additional horses. They all add up in the end. But, if you want real power, don't be afraid to break out the credit card. HP=$$$
