Default torque converter

Ok guys.. ol timers needed...

I pulled a trans from the pick and pull cheap. But the trans is out of the 5.9 and I have the 5.2, I have heard all i have to do is knock the weights off the new tc..

Is this true? It should i drain my tc best i can and reuse?

What year is the new trans? I think starting in 96, both engines used the same t/c.

I'll go one further and say that I would not use a TC of unknown functionality at all.

I'd be scared of trying a jy transmission as is.

I looked inside, bands and everything look amazing. The fluid is bright red clean. This trans looks like it was just rebuilt. The paint on the tc is barely starting to peel. But the new trans us from a 96, and it is $147... but that's with a 30 day warrentee.

There might be some wiring differences....... but, not 100% sure on that either way. For the money, with a warranty... Sounds like a deal. Rebuild your takeout, and either keep it as a spare, or, put it back in when done.

That's what I was going to do. save money, buy the patc rebuild kit. And take my time. but the plugs all match up. Just. find out about the tc.

Did some checking, and, it appears that for 96 model year, the t/c's do NOT interchange. Different part numbers with only an engine size change.......

Ok. So they are differant. But what differant.. as far as I know its just the weights.. which I can grind and knock off. I want to use this new one cause it looks very new. Not even dirty or peeling paint yet

Maybe stall speed too. Might wanna have a look at your current T/C, and see if there are any obvious differences. If it's just the weight.... might be able to get away with it.
