It just goes in in place of the fitting that has the hose to the stock airbox. Just press it in. That's it.

careful here. both sides look similar.

on one side of the engine you have a PCV valve with a hose to the manifold. leave this side alone.

on the other side, you have an elbow vent with a hose to the air cleaner. you can remove this side and install a breather. just remove the elbow and measure the inside diameter of the rubber grommet (=outside diameter of the vent). it should be something like 5/8 or 3/4 or 1 inch. buy a breather this size and insert it into the grommet. place a rubber cap over the breather port to keep it clean.

what can go wrong?
the rubber grommet might be so hard and dry that the vent elbow won't come out.
the rubber elbow might break off, leaving a part of it inside the rubber grommet.

if this happens, you need to either cut out the grommet and any remnants, and/or remove the valve cover to remove any debris.
the grommet is available at the dealer for a few bucks. it might/might not be available at a regular parts store.

Help has them at advance auto. That's where I got my new one. The old one was solid as a rock.

If you are running an aftermarket air hat that doesn't have the provision for the breather tube, you need a push in breather for proper crankcase ventilation.
