Can anyone help me figure out how to get the gear out from under the distributor to prime oil pump? Thanks.

You pulled the distributor? Ouch. That is gonna cause some trouble....... If you are just replacing the oil pump, to prime it, all you do is pour some oil down thru the top, and install it. (I also disconnected my coil, and cranked the engine till pressure came up.)

To get the gear out, (I don't really recommend this though....) use a long, flat bladed screwdriver to turn the gear so that it 'walks up' the cam gear. Then just use some flavor of grab tool to pull it the rest of the way out.
