My mistake...it is the 46re. Here's the laundry list:
-Complete rebuild
-Replace all clutches, seals, broken OD housing, OD planetary set, and thrust washers
-Internal electonics
-Front band
-Billet TC
-New cooler lines
-Rear drive shaft u-joints
1 year 12,000 mile warranty
Parts: $1760
Labor: $900
Tax: $110

No offense intended, but whoever told you the 46RE is behind your diesel made a mistake. I hope your transmission guy didn't tell you that, because its wrong. The diesel and V10 engines came with either the 47RE/RH or 48RE/RH. (RE or RH depends on model year, for yours, it'll be the newer RE.) They never came with the 46RE, the 46RE was gasser V8s only. It can't handle the V10 or Cummins.
If you don't believe, contact your local dealership, give them your VIN number, and get a build sheet.

I think it is right. They did use the 46RE in some of the earlier 2500's,The 47RE/RH was used in the 3500 primarily, and they didn't start using the 48RE until 2002,or 03 if my memory serves me right.
The 47RE went thru some upgrades in 98 I believe, which was the increase in the planetary pinions.
It's really unclear as to what trans they used when or why.
