Played with the air intake temp, if you make it read about 40deg below ambient, it make a huge improvement towing, but 6-8mpg really stinks.

How are you getting your intake temp to 40deg below OAT??? NOS??? Are you running your AC evaporator on top of your throttle body?

You could always suggest an aftermarket ignition.

as the 318 had flat topped pistons with no reliefs in them.

Not exactly true, I have a 318 that has stock pistons with reliefs in them sitting in my garage floor.

If it's a magnum engine, I'm pretty sure it has flat topped pistons, or you have aftermarket pistons.

The 360 has "soap dish" pistons, but no magnum 318s I am aware of had them.

Good advice from aim4squirrels, and some advice I've never heard from other members such as the Length of the Kegger intake runners are there to heat up the air and the one that really gets me is that cold air doesn't make more power...I'm guessing that poster has never chased an ET. I loose up to a couple tenths when it get's hot out.

One thing to remember with gears is the 4.10s might get you up and running quicker, but will the added RPMs make you tow with the OD on? That's a no no unless the tranny was built for it.

Or not...Stock is plenty if it's in good shape.

very true. The only reason I have a MSD box is because that 6AL used to be in my IROC. I noticed no gain with that ignition....unless you are at WOT, then there is a bit of notice-ability.

MSD has never been the same since they sold out.

I noticed smoother idle, and slightly snappier throttle response when I had the MSD smartbox on my 'bird. I still have it, just don't know if it still works......
