Have to push gas pedal to start?..how to fix

Try checking the basics first? Maybe a small animal crawled into the engine bay since it was sitting for scuh a long time and knocked a vacuum line loose? That would more than likely cause it to start weak and then die but stay alive if you kept giving it some gas.

This is true, alternator testing machines will tell you if it puts out the right amount of voltage, and if the diodes are good. But most alternators have at least 3 diodes. The tester won't catch if a diode or possibly 2 are bad. So I'd follow what's been said, and take it to a couple different auto stores.
