Default Turning issue..

Ok, so I'm new here but not to the Dodge family..lol.

I am buying another ram 1500 next week, thing is the owner told me his son hit a guardrail and now when turning to the right, you have to take it wide cause it wont turn all the way.

Everything else suspension/engine/trans wise is fine, the mechanic was asking WAY to much appearently to fix the steering issue, thats why it hasn't been done.

My issue... What piece is the cause of it not turning fully? It's obviously binding/hitting something to cause this.

The guy said the piece at the junk yard sells for like $20-$30...

I replaced my WHOLE front end suspension for 110$ on ebay. WORLDSUSPENSION
Inner/outer tie rods, ball joins, sway bar, pitman arm, idler arm. I would be worried about the steering column. get your head underneath and start looking for things that may be bent. If its above pitman arm (the one with the HUGE bolt) you may be in for some fun. Ask the "guy" what piece hes talking about. They quoted me 500$ to replace TWO ball joints that are like 8 bucks a pop. Its all about time here. Set out two days and 300 bucks and a spare car and you should be able to get it done. Make sure there somewhere to get an alignment close after your done and mark the pitman arm if your going to replace it. You can look at my thread for pics of your suspension:

Not enough info to tell.....could be anything in the steering linkage, 2wd or 4wd ?

why was the mechanic asking way too much? and he says the part is only 20-30....junkyard parts are usually 50% of the new price...

you need to consider why he is selling the truck if it can be fixed so cheap, but the mechanic story already contradicts his story

Could be as simple as a bent steering stabilizer. Get under it and look instead of guessing .

Sorry about the lack of info, I'm only going by what I was told. It's 2wd, nothing else was damaged appearently or has been checked and was good. The owner put $1500 rims/tires on it and his son drove it less then 5 miles and was I guess forced off the road. Basicly, he's just trying to recoupe the tires/rims, his son has already bought a bmw and has no interest in the truck anymore.

They are a "Fourtunate" family and don't want the truck with a dented fender and crappy paint job sitting in front of their 4000sf home and next to their Esclade..lol.

So I said I'll take it..lol.

I think your right Zman, I think he said something about the stabilizer is binding up/hitting another piece stopping it from fully turning...

I'm going to go look at it (hopefully bring it home) this coming weekend.

Thanks for all the opinions with this issue. I'm liking this site alot!!
