Question Transmission problems?

I don't know if this has been posted before but I need some help. I have a 1999 Dodge Ram Sport Quad Cab 4x4, all stock as far as I know. I just bought the truck 3 months ago and about a month after I got it I started having what feels like transmission issues. I'll be driving at highway speeds (over 50 at least) when the RPM's will suddenly jump up and then go back down and the engine will surge. It doesn't happen all the time but once it starts it happens quite often. It only seems to happen when I'm touching the gas pedal. Also, the transmission has a hard kick when it shifts. It seems like I push the pedal to get the engine to accelerate and the engine will surge like 30 seconds before the transmission will engage. And at low speeds theres a lot of shaking and feels like sputtering. Some of this could be normal I don't know I've never had a truck before. Any help would be appreciated. Oh and I'm a girl so nothing too technical I have to be able to explain to someone who can fix it, thanks.

How many miles on your truck? Any idea when the last time the trans was serviced was?

Sounds like you might have a couple problems. (not really a big surprise with these transmissions. quite frankly, they suck......)

I really hate to suggest the shotgun approach..... but, in your case, I think you have enough issues with it, to almost sorta merit it...... Try the cheap stuff first though...... Make sure the Throttle valve cable is adjusted properly, and check all electrical connections, make sure they are clean and tight. Might just be a poor connection somewhere. See if that doesn't improve its attitude any.

If that doesn't help, then we can get to the more expensive stuff.

Welcome to DF!

You could try replacing the throttle position sensor also, before throwing in the towel.
