Default ITT i track my MPG

this is mainly a thread to track my progress as it'll always be around in an e-sorta way!

first full tank since owning and i got 11mpg. 250 miles out of about 22.69 gallons.

i will update as i do things to the truck to maybe help out people that will be in my situation in the future to know where to look.

of course im always up for suggestions to increase it BESIDES THE PLENUM. i know that is a big part of these trucks and its in the works to replace. so please refrain from saying the word plenum if you must comment in here

again this is mainly for me so i don't forget when i upgrade things like plugs/wires, exhaust, fan, etc.

edit: and another thing, i was about to cut some cartwheels when i saw i was sitting at a half tank and 175 miles! i figured that of course it wouldn't be 175 on the on the downside but maybe get 125 at most. i only got 75 on the downside of the tank. no changes in driving or use of AC.

That gasket in between the intake manifold and belly pan being fresh will help things tremendously. I can't recall what's its called.. any discussion without that is ridiculous.. I can't recall its name, but its synonymous with air reserve...

These things are tanks.. they are work horses and they are fairly bullet proof.. economy is likely only useful for discussion while talking about engine health..

PLENUM!!!! I knew I would remember..

Increase of gas mileage, motor swap to a diesel and not worry about gas mileage since your not puttin gas in it at all.(good for 1 million miles to the gallon, or double the gas mileage in diesel)

Motor swap to a boosted inline 6, maintain needed torque and gain gas mileage, maybe the idiots at ford are on to something.(good for 18 or so)

Keeping stock motor.
E-fans
Underdrives
SCT
Vaccum guage
Stock size street tires at rock hard psi
weight reduction, no rear seats, drop spare, drop jack and tools,
intake
exhaust
(good for maybe 13-15)

Sorry to thread jack, but how is it possible for those new ford ecoboost trucks to last as long as a regular non boosted engine? I would be willing to bet they aren't putting a rock solid bottom end in there to handle that boost as it would cost way too much, at least I would think it would.

Those Ecoboosts are putting down 420ft-lbs of torque. I'm sure Ford made them with a good bottom end.

Back on topic: Electric Fans would help!

this thread needs to be hijacked.. imHo, Ford has done it right this time.. the engine is purpose built instead of tacking crap onto an existing platform.. Europeans have been doing this kind of thing for a long time, and I'm thinking Furd finally followed suite.. I'll bet those things will last so long as the owner takes care of them- and we're not talking huge boost figures anyway..

if production limitations didn't involve interchangeability concerns as they do, especially in this country, i've often wondered what is truly possible.. an engine built to specs and married to a tranny and it's ratios, married to gears and their ratios, married to torque converter, married to vehicle weight, married to purpose- and ALL purpose built would be ridiculously expensive, and likely too specific a vehicle to warrant the expense of R&D and production.. so, it won't happen.. but if it did? We would have some bad-**** vehicles that would last and last- AND get good economy numbers.. but much of the considerations that would go into developing such a ride would conflict with practicality.. so, it ain't going to happen..

in furds case, though, they've finally made effort to move a little in that direction.. it's a gamble.. I bet all the makers are watching closely too.

I know a guy that has one. I wouldn't want to touch it with a wrench, that's for damn sure. But, they have some serious power and get great mileage for a full size truck.

Yeah the ford eco-boost is definanetly a great idea, and reliability if built to good specs and followed should not be a problem, there are many boosted engines in smaller cars that hold up to the task.

Little bit bigger engine a little messing with timing and it should easily last as long as our V8's do now. Now heres what Im worried about,
1. Us idiots not wanting a Six cylinder in our truck and not selling enough and going back to square one
2. Cheaping out on turbo and turbo management allowing it to hinder performance
3. lazy people not doing proper maitenence and then getting the motor a bad name
4. How much room to play with...tuning wise, its already tuned more than a normal stock vehicle so what happens when you take it to the next step will it compete with a slighty modded truck( I think it will without a doubt but you dont know forsure)
