Default Removed o2 sensor and smells when running

Ok, for the hell of it I removed the upstream o2 sensor and started it, it seems to run better then it did before, but I thought it ran good before, o2 sensor is black as tobbies ****, and when I run the truck I am getting this nasty smell (was gagging on it) from the driver side all the way down the truck. Got any ideas? Btw i love the way the truck sounds with the sensor out lol

Your getting the smell of the clogged cat, I assume this is why you took your O2 sensor out in the first place, yeah it smells like rotten eggs but the smell is the least of your concern, now you need to replace that Cat or at least hollow it out.

I am trouble shooting, I am not driving the truck around with it out, my father said a while ago that he was getting exhaust in the cab, as he was showing the symptoms on a 3 hour ride. And please do not jump to conclusions zman.

When I smelled it first it reminded me of raw gas, but it's a little stronger then that. And the reason i pulled the sensor was by a suggestion to check to make sure the cat was not clogged as it seems to be a common issue with these trucks. That and the fact my father smelled exhaust in the cab

Also is it normal for the sensor to be black?

Of course you'll smell raw gas, the sensor is reading fresh air, so the PCM is dumping fuel into it. Which will also give you the sensation that it's running better.

Normal perfect engine would be almost white. If it's black, it might need to be replaced or plenum or tune up, etc...

Looked down the intake and it seems somewhat wet at the bottom, with what appears to be gunk?
