Hey Guys.

Recently I had my tranny serviced at a shop I go to all the time. Just a pan drop, filter and fluid change, no flush. I noticed that they did over-fill it a little. Its a little bit above the max line on the dip stick when the trannys warm (Yes, checking in neutral)..Its not foaming, and the fluid looks good

Ever since that my trannys been leaking out of the front, where the inspection plate / torque converter seal is.

Its a very slow leak, nothing serious yet, but it bothers me.

I talked to my cousin whos a 4th year mechanic, and works on dodges alot. He said these trannys have a bleeder hole or something in em right around the area of the inspection cover where my leak is. He said it most likely is just weeping out the hole cause its over-filled a bit, and it should stop once the fluid level gets down to normal.

To me it makes sense I guess, as it did start right after I had it serviced...

Another mechanic said my seals are fu**ed basically and I have to have my tranny dropped and replace the front seals to the tune of about $600.....He said hes never heard of a bleeder hole in these transmissions...

I'm going with " your seals are f**ked theory. It is an issue I've seen may times.

 

No, the transmission does not have a bleeder hole, it has a vent, IF the transmission was seriously overfilled it would PUKE, not weep the fluid out. 1/4" max over the fill line is good, I prefer it that way.

You need to have the leak diagnosed, a little better than your seals are f'ed. Pull the inspection cover, and spray it down with brake cleaner, let the truck run and look up in there.

Personally, your mechanic is about 200 bucks north of a fair price. Unless you own a rust bucket.

 

Its not a rust bucket. The trucks actually in pretty fair shape and is running really good right now.

How exactly does the cover come off? just unbolt and it slides off?? This is it, right? :



Im actually missing a few bolts off the cover...and the covers pretty banged up. Any idea what size replacement bolts I need?

 

You have to remove the starter.

 

Remove it or take it loose, I cant remember.

 

Remove.... The bolts go through it as does the nose of the starter.

 

I try my damnest to stay out from under the cars that come in.

 

That's fine, as long as you stick around here once in a while.
