Default Compression Test shows bad for Ol' Blue

well had a chance to do a compression check today...results werent that great.

first cylinder read 90...put oil in cylinder and it read 115
Second cylinder read 95...put oil in and it read 145

i stopped right there because that tells me i need new piston rings.....but cant really complain, the motor has 211,6xx......but whats weird is that the truck runs great, just doesnt have the power it should...has good power, but i know its lacking power.

So i talked to my best friend, and he has a chevy corsica im going to buy for 300 bucks...i looked it all over and it has 1 bad brake line, needs rear shocks and a windshield, which is minor....motor was replaced by the family mechanic who i know personally...and the motor has just about 100K.....

So im going to run that, park my truck at the garage i work at and rebuild her.

my question is would it be worth rebuilding my current motor, or should i take a chance and replace it with one that i found that has 89K, for $500...and obviously swap all my new parts from my motor to the new motor....or just rebuild mine which i know still runs good.

Also ive done some searching for rebuild kits with pistons, crank, cam and all and im finding them for around $1500.....anyone know something thats better in price? i searched hughes, and summit so far, and if im going to rebuild it im doing it right the first time, which is why i want a kit with pistons, cam, crank etc.

this situation sucks, but 'ol blue needs some lovin...and i really really dont want to get rid of her.

what would you guys do if you were in my situation?

You're probably looking at performance parts. Do you really need performance parts?

No reason the crank, cam, and rods can't be reused, they just need a once over and new bearings. If the block needs bored out the pistons can't be reused, but even performance pistons at .030 over are around $425.

Take a look at repair websites, not necessarily at performance websites, unless that's really the route you want to go. If that's the case, open the wallet and bend over, LOL!

The only reason I could see for not reusing the hard internals is if the motor grenaded on you, and you couldn't trust any of the parts. Otherwise, recycle as much as you can.

Huh? Unless you are looking to spend money for no good reason, drive the freakin thing until it blows up. My god, all the body work your truck needs it ain't worth it. Buy another truck with less miles and swap the good stuff from the rust bucket.

If it's running great then why rebuild it?

If you are still not happy you could look over the motor that's $500 and see what you think. Do a compression test on that motor and see what comes up. If it's good then you can swap it for yours. If you go that route you can keep your motor and build it with performance parts or sell your motor to get some money back.

if its running good - just drive it and don't worry about it.

why spend $300+ on a POS and then another $1000-2000 on a truck that already runs good.
