Check the head for cracks between the valves too.

zero and zero?

even a leaking head gasket and cracked heads would compress some, would they not?

Maybe. Being as how the problem is on adjacent cylinders, certainly does point to a head gasket failure....... You can check for evidence of such a leak just by looking at the mating surfaces between the two cylinders. If there is any soot, etc, there's the problem. Using a mechanics straight edge, and checking flatness of the head/block would be a real good plan here.

Either way, I'd say you have to pull that head and check. Could be bad valves do to a bad plenum.

Well found the problem. Bad plenum gasket, making #8 run lean & burn't the edge of the piston. #5 not sure on, I have a short block already. Just got to take the heads in & get checked out

Good luck on getting the heads checked.

Don't mean to stereotype, but our Magnum heads are crack-a-holics..... They are seriously addicted to crack-ing.

I hope yours come back okay, but if not:

There are a few great aftermarket heads available. Search the forum for the ones that are recommended.

But if you are on a tight budget, I've heard great things from Cylinder Heads International. They sell rebuilt heads for cheap! Google them for their website.

Hopefully you won't have to use my advice...
