My belief: Those chrome 4 inchers are more for show than go, and your truck strikes me as well done "function over form" type of build. So why screw it up with huge chrome pipes? "Gaudy" is the word that comes to mind.

The chrome's gonna get muddy anyway, and the acids and stuff in it will pit and rust the chrome. You can sand down a black stack and repaint.

But hey, it's your build.

IMHO...stacks on pick ups look STUUUUUUPID..diesel or not...and seeing diesel trucks with huuuuuuge exhaust tips fart cans looks stupid. i swear....diesel trucks are becoming the ricers of the future. ok..on SOME trucks it looks O.K. but on every other truck i see its just getting stupid.

They will be flat black witht the high temp paint and i will be using 3 in od pipe so i wont llose performance, and thanks desertdog, i never do something because it" looks good" i do it for reason

 

for what you are puttin them on for it would be decent, i hate seein stacks that stand over the cab, im more of a fan of ones that are flush with the cab. Flat black would look cool, maybe put some of the spray on bedliner on to? I like the sound of stacks on gassers IMHO, but i would rather see it on a diesel, and dont make the stacks to big wide stacks can end up lookin trashy

For guys that think stacks are dumb for his truck....and yeah, I think 5 inch chrome ones are silly, even on diesels.

Most mud runners run open headers up through thier hoods so that don't get water in them. I've seen them flapper capped. Mud/water in engines is a no -no no matter what end of the engine it goes in.

So for this app stacks or a stack has merit.I would use a stack with an angle on it so you vent your exhaust away from the cab and don't have a mouth for water/mud to fall into.

Oh...and for the record...sanctioned racing bodies require stacks on diesels because when they spool up and launch, you wouldn't able to see the track in most cases from the black smoke. Again, function over form.
