So, I'm trying to figure out if my truck's axles have LSDs. I recently had the front axle seals done on my truck, but now the rear diff is leaking so im gonna pull the cover and drain it. On the hood of my truck, i have this info:

DJC- Dana 44F
DRB- Chrysler 9.25
DSA- Anti-Spin Differential

So im guessing the DSA is the coding for a Limited slip diff right? However, does this mean that BOTH diffs on my truck (since its a 4x4) are LSDs? Thanks in advance

 

Factory never put LSD's in the front. But, other than that minor error, your assumptions are correct. You will need the gear lube with the friction modifier in it for the rear, but, not the front.

 

Alright. I figured they might not have put them in the front but I wasn't sure. I noticed today that my rear diff was leaking, so I topped it off. I added about 1/2 to 3/4 of a quart. If it keeps leaking I'm gonna drain and change the gasket but if I doesn't im gonna leave it alone. I guess its ok just topping it off without adding friction mod right?

 

Just get gear lube that already has it in it. Can't go wrong that way. Make sure it isn't leaking at the pinion seal though... that is usually a sign of bearings on their way out.

 

Its not. Its leaking right at the bottom of the diff cover. I can see where its leaking out. I just added what I had in the garage from when I had the front axle problem. Just added some 80-90 so I hope I'm good to go just topping off without adding friction modifier.

 

do you think i should bother changing the fluid out if it doesnt leak? or am i ok just topping off without adding the friction modifier?

 

If you dont know when it was changed last, change it and fix the leak....rear ends arent cheap...better to be safe than sorry

I'm going to change it tomorrow. Would 80-90 be the correct gear oil for that chrysler 9.25 axle? And how much friction modifier do I need, 8 ounces? Any specific brand?

 

01 Factory service manual is available in the faq section. That will have the info you need on the amount.... I don't really have any particular recommendations for brand..... I just got the 80-90 that already had it in it..... easier.
