I'm pretty sure it say in the manual (add a Hayne's manual to your list ;-) ) , but I think it is a #6 torx screwdriver that drops the filter and the little bracket that holds the two sensors in there, other than the bolts that is..

read this from the FAQ section too..

you'll need something to catch the fluid when you drop the pan.. it will be messy.. a tip: leave the four corner bolts in it until you are ready to drop the whole pan.. then loosen one side so as to create a more controlled fluid fall (akin to waterfall)..

this is something to look at.. as in pictures... be aware: you'll want to go to the dealer for these parts unless you really like doing this job over and over.. for some reason, out trucks don't like aftermarket parts in a few areas.. this is one area.. the other option is to do the GM mod, which is just what it sounds like.. it uses parts intended for heavier duty cycle GM trannies... but, it's most likely overkill in your case, and not worth it imHo unless you are rebuilding..

if you have a GOOD torque wrench, and a little patience and steady hand, go ahead and adjust the bands.. You can find specific instructions on how to do that in the FAQ section as well.. You'll already be in there, so you may as well..

While you have the pan off, install a drain plug.. you will REALLY appreciate that the next time you wanna change fluid, or have to work on it.. and it's a 46RE, so, rest assured you will have to work on it again at some point.. (or somebody will anyway).. it will take you like ten minutes to install one is all..

The 'other sensor thingy' is the Governor Pressure Sensor. (or, transducer....... depending on whose catalog you look at.....)

If you don't have an inch pound torque wrench (needs to go down to 72 inch pounds, lower would be better) should pick up one of those.... (buy or rent...) and adjust your bands as well.

They can be somewhat difficult to find....... You can find 'em fairly inexpensively though... Might have to go to the store in person, see if they have one on the shelf, or, if not, if they can order one up for ya. Need a competent salesperson though.... Went to Sears to try and get one, and failed miserably, even though they DO sell them... Salesperson didn't have a clue.....

Soo truee, most of the time its actually hard to find someone that actually knows something at a store, im guessing they do it on purpose.

Does it try to shift to third, and just act like neutral? Or, does it never even try for the shift?

sorry for the thread jack!
Is there a sensor in our transmissions right under the pan that goes out often on these? reason i ask. I was driving and my transmission flushed it self all over the road from a loose hose that attaches to my transmission cooler up front. anyways fluid went everywhere. replaced the fluid but now there is no power...just feels like its slipping ALOT. about 30,000 miles ago i had something very similar happen. I took it into eagle transmission and he pulled the pan and replaced a sensor in about 45 minutes. After that all my power was back. I think i blew that same sensor again? anyone off hand know what im talking about?

The line is a cooler line, and blowing all your trans fluid onto the road means there isn't any in the trans to make it work..... and none to lubricate the various parts either... never a good scene. Its possible that you just don't have enough fluid in it.... check fluid level FIRST, make sure that's good. If that doesn't help, start a new thread for your problem.
