Sounds like your CAD unit locked in while you were driving and your u-joint turned out to be the weakest link!

What were you doing when this happened?

I would get the posi lick, but DHvaughn's posts about the routing troubleshooting made me decide not to.

I still have my truck under warranty until 100K miles or 4 more years. Has 54K now. So i will just keep getting the warranty work. Best $1295 I ever spent. Speaking of which, i have not had my truck back from the shop because of the backlash thing and the battery going kaput. Never thought that warranties covered up to 60 dollars for a new battery. So i got me an OPTIMA!

i was driving while it happened. it was in 2wd and then i tried cycling the 4wd shifter from 4hi to 2hi to see if it would stop and thats when the drive shaft went bye bye,

going to get the posi lock tomorrow, as well as a new driveshaft thursday. all in all, truck is still drivable, but i still cannot get it into 4lo, and it worked this past winter, so im thinking its time to buy the t-case saver as well.

on a better note, im heading out to go test drive my neighbors 2011 392 challenger srt8!!!

Your pinion looks like its still good, but that u-joint is toast. The posi-lok and a new u-joint and you should be ok. Bet that made one hell of a sound lol.

Check the splines where the two parts come together, and make sure the male portion isn't damaged..... (probably pretty trashed....) You would probably be further ahead just replacing it, as it just had a REALLY bad experience.....

yeah i kinda figured. my local heavy truck shop makes and repairs driveshafts, and they have the boot, but i found a front driveshaft out of a 94 for 50 bucks.

Just a quick note, check out your transfer as well. I had a bronco drop a shaft like that and it cracked the transfer across the top. When you put it back together see about getting a catch loop made, this way if for whatever reason it comes apart again it will not jam into the ground. Shaun

the shaft didnt jam into the ground, the front part of it simply flew off and went flying behind me once the u-joint let go. shaft isnt long enough to hit the ground, the cv-joint at the t-case binds up before it could hit the ground.
