Default 1996 egr?

I'm going to be buying a spare intake to mod probably tomorrow, but I have some different opinions as to whether my 1996 needs the EGR or not? In the DIY thread, it says I do. But i've read in other threads that the EGR stopped in 95. So if someone has a definite answer backed up by a reliable source, that would be awesome. Also if someone has some intake manifold diagrams too that would be sweet. Thanks!

96 shouldn't have EGR. See if your truck has it, it's very simple. If it does, it's best to keep it.

My 96 did NOT have EGR. It had an EGR capable manifold, but, there was a block off plate where the valve would have been.

Ok, I looked at the one in my truck and didn't see any EGR, so I bought a manifold from the junkyard for $40. This intake's plenum had blown very badly haha, so I'm in the process of cleaning it all up nice and perdy and going to mod it out.

No egr on a 96 liked stated, if you have an early build 96 its possible to have an egr manifold with a block off, kinda cheaply done by dodge and im glad my truck wasnt an early build

Why do you say its best to keep it? I just bought long tube headers for my truck and was going to del it because the headers have no port for it.

Its an emissions thing. The newer trucks found other ways to reduce emissions.... EGR has been around for quite some time though.... some folks simply eliminate it, and don't even get a code......
