Confused Rearend
The rearend in my '01 Ram 2500 4x4 needs some work (pinion seal leaking & feels like clutches slipping around corners). I changed the fluid - tag said use LSD additive which I did even though it looked like an open dif, didn't help. I gave the numbers off the civer to the mechanic when getting a price quote and he said it showed as an open 3.55. The sticker in the glovebox said 4.10. Anyone know what type dif this might be - specifically, does the LSD look like an open?
LSD will have clutches and such on the side gears in the carrier. (the ones the axles plug into.) Cover tags are not always accurate...... gear ratio should be etched into the ring gear somewhere. Or, you can physically count the teeth, and do the math.
Yep. On the edge of the ring gear that you can see.... somewhere on there should be etched the ratio as well. (might be expressed as tooth count.....) Have to clean it good to be able to read it though...
