68RFE rear wheel drive fully electronic, the six is for 6 speed and the 8 i assume is some type of power capacity rating. The transmission gets is design believe it or not from the Caravan (41TE) transmissions. Same as the 45/545RFE and the 42LE/42RLE.

Its tough to try and stay current will all of the new transmissions coming out. Currently there are over 2000 different transmissions on the road.

I have not seen these transmissions come into my shop yet, still to new, they are under factory warranty.

You will most likely found the 68RFE in the 4500 and 5500 diesel trucks, and montec is right, the transmission is almost the same as the 45RFE/545RFE transmission. There was some changes in the 68RFE, One was the manual shift valve. There also another transmission that was put in the 4500 and 5500 diesel trucks, that is AS68RC.
