Default Fast transmission question

rebuilt my a518 shifts great in drive slams in to revers but maybe to nice.
in revers it will drag the engine down and stall it would this be caused by not tight enough band.
i set it with the 72 in lbs and backed it off 2 turns but in the front clutch witch i be leave controls revers, when i rebuilt the tranny i added 7 clutches instead of the 3 that were in there to compensate for the spacer they had in there. every thing was in tolerance when i assembled. so the only thing i can think of is the band is to loose for the extra torque of the added clutches.
Thanks guys any info is awesome.

The torque converter should still be slipping some when you put it in reverse at idle. Does it act like you are dumping the clutch on a manual trans? Instantly stall the engine??

how the F did you get seven clutches in a three clutch drum? Did you take the pressure plate out? Unless you used single sided clutches, you did something very wrong.

they were double the pressure plate was about 1 inch thick its not really a presure plate from all i read its a spacer so they didn't have to put as many clutches in and as long as you had proper clearance in the end it was not needed. so far i have a lot more torque in the drive from removing the plate in the rear clutch pack witch i got 6 clutches in with no plate. only haveing a problem with the revers witch i got i think 9 or 10 clutch in total i used 2 steel in the end to get the proper clearance witch put me at .070 clerance if i remember right with a tolerance of .066 -.160 tolerance. again if i remember right whatever it was i was withing .010 of tolerance. so it shouldn't make this happen

At this point, the answer lies outside my knowledge, MonteC is our resident transmission Guru though, he does this kinda thing for a living.......

Under normal circumstances, I would think the torque converter clutch wasn't disengaging properly though......

You cant do that. That is a pressure plate not a "spacer", the drum it self is cut for the different amount of frictions. 3, 4, or 5 clutch. In some 4 clutch drums they put a larger pressure plate in, you can upgrade that drum to 4 clutches if you put the 4 clutch pressure plate in.

You CANT make a pressure plate with two thin steels put together.

Thats like taking out the flywheel in a manual shift truck and replacing it with a pizza tin.
