The boost performance timing set is deceiving.
There are 2 marks on the gear that folks mess up. The correct mark is a tiny little dot up in the great teeth that doesn't look like it should be the correct mark, but it is.

Funny you should say that, I was just looking through my Mighty Vac manual, and was going to suggest getting a dedicated vac tester. Not the boost gauge.
Well I did already set the fuel sync on the engine but the second link you posted is interesting what they are saying is that both timing dots have to be at 12 o'clock on both sprocket?
I was wondering about that I would think that if it is timed wrong at the timing Chain like zman17 said that the engine would not run right at all I had the fuel sync set at a dealer and it was at + 8 to start with and it's now set at +2 and it really made little difference in how the truck runs
I could be wrong, but, I think if the cam is off 180 and the distributor is off 180 (when installed assuming the cam is right) it will run. In other words, if you right now you don't touch the dizzy and correct the cam. The dizzy will be pointed to #1 tdc. Not sure I'm explaining that right. Not to mention the fuel sync was set to where the cam is now.
