Default Keyless Entry Range

So my after market key less entry system has no range. It is located under the dash and has a 3 inch long black wire coming from it which is the antenna. Can I jusr splice in another simmiliar gauge wire and just run it up the a pillar? Or is there a range extender I can purchase?

I'm curious of this as well. My range has to be roughly 6" to 12" for my remote(s) to work. I've tried new batteries but no dice. It's an aftermarket system (it came with the truck when I bought it, not sure the brand though). Any suggestions on what I can do to extend the range?

Mine only reaches about 80' if nothing is between me and the truck. With something in the way (walls) it only reaches about 50'.
One thing I've found is that it seems to work better with the base pointed at the truck, I don't know why it does but it does because sometimes I'll hit the button and get nothing then I turn the keyring end toward the truck and it works.

That's because of where the antenna in the remote is placed.
