Default Engine Swap Question

A friend of mine has a 2004 5.7L Hemi, it's been rebuilt but it was thought that the cam was messed up (the only part they couldn't replace). It would continue to drop oil pressure and something else happened, anyways.

He found another Hemi from a wreck (in fine shape I'm guessing) they are just waiting for the insurance to release the hold and he's putting it in his truck.

My question would a 5.7L 345Hp Hemi mount to the transmission on a stock 2001 360V8 Ram 4x2? And would it work with the computer in the 01? I imagine there would be some tweeking to be done.

The Hemi is 345HP and after a tear down and rebuild it would be a good upgrade power wise I think. Better then the 200+HP on the 5.9. I have rode in that truck with this Hemi working and it has TONS of power.

What ya'll think?

well the bellhousing bolt pattern on the new hemi is supposed to be the same as the old torqueflights, which i believe the magnums are aswell. So with the proper flex plate it might bolt up, but that's about it. the comp wouldn't like it so the tranny wouldn't work. if you are swapping in a hemi you need the trans that the hemis came with. plus with all the other problems you will run into swapping in a hemi engine/trans you would have a major headache and vehicle downtime. There is a member on here that did a hemi swap, you may want to search the forum for that thread. the magnums can be built for good power and would cost much less. so i suggest building the magnum for power.

IMO the 5.7 hemi wasn't a huge step forward, it wasn't hugely efficient and seemed to be made as a marketing tool. if it was released 10 years earlier then it would have been a great engine for the time. now what i want to see is a overhead cam v8 from dodge.

good luck with whatever choice you make.

Sounds like it'd just be best to work with the Magnum. It's time for a Plenum Fix, probably wouldn't hurt to have it completely rebuilt, or at least tore down and examined for problems or soon to be problems and rebuilt for more power.

The 360 Transmission won't bolt to the new Hemi Motors . They make an adapter plate to install the Hemi to the 727 . The 45-rfe and 5-45-rfe transmissions bolt to the Hemi and the 4.7 liter motors, Which 4.7s ARE Over head Cam V-8s...

Just a tiny v-8. Granted, they are squeezing more ponies per cube out of them these days...... Guess I am just old school. Nothing beats the almighty cubic inch.

There's no replacement for displacement.
