Default LA cam into a Magnum?

I'm going to be buying a used engine soon and the seller is going to include a brand new cam and lifters with it. I looked up the part number on summit and it would be this cam...

It doesn't apply to Magnum engines, but is there really that much of a difference? Would it fit/work on a Magnum?

I don't think so..... My understanding is, the lifter bore angles are different between the two styles of block, so the cam won't work as intended..... seems it will physically fit... but, valvetrain geometry will be whacky. (yes, that's a technical term.)

not to mention roller vs flat tappet, guess you could convert the Magnum to flat tappet, but WHY?

Most LA engines use a mechanical fuel pump driven by a great on the camshaft. It physically won't fit in the magnum engine cam tunnel, too long. The later model LA engines did use hydraulic rollers, but still had the mechanical fuel gear. I believe there is a device that will let you run a magnum can in an LA engine by providing an attachable fuel pump gear, and you can then run a more aggressive rhydraulic roller cam.

The opposite does not exist.

why would you want to put a $300 magnum cam in an LA engine?

i was kind of wondering this exact same question. i was thinking about getting a magnum and since i would be going carbed i was thinking i might be able to use an older style cam but since i can't i might just stick with my LA engine. you won't catch me spending $300 on a cam anytime soon. especially since there is so many other thing that would have to be replaced to get working.
