hmm, well maybe this is something ill look into, i want as much torque as i can get lol
man- our trucks have little baby cams in them.. if you ever really want some jump, the cam is the only way to go!!
so, cam for what, $300? throw some iron ram heads on there (dressed) for another $1k from clear water, including gaskets and bolts.. get some good ARP studs, and a B&G Flash or HemiFever SCT tune, and a weekend worth of work and you'll awaken that thing!
210x for higher RPM' range, or a good RV cam for low end grunt.. match up your TC to compliment the range.. match up your gears.. match up your intake and exhaust.. Eff all these bolt ons- do it right from the start!! For ~$4k total, you can have a very strong and reliable engine..
that being said, those 1.7:1 H&S Rocker Rollers were likely the quickest and easiest 20 ponies I added.. If I had it to do again though, I wouldn't fiddle fart with the bolt ons.. I would have went straight to the heart of the matter- the cam and the heads..
Lastrights: pain in the **** with the heads on the block.. gotta rope the valves or use compressed air.. if you pull that off, they aren't hard.. if you drop one, you'll be fishing around with a magnet hoping for a miracle, or you'll be pulling the heads.. swapping heads on a mounted block will expand your four letter word vocabulary to an amazing degree.

If you have the money, and time, doing it 'right' is certainly the best way to go. But, if you are 'just' going to do a cam...... its 300 for the cam, another pile of money for springs/locks/retainers, and lets not forget gaskets, oil, and a bunch of other little things...... after all you haveta rip the engine fairly far down to get the cam...... and that doesn't include retuning the pcm to understand the new cam...... so your 300 dollar cam is more likely to cost 1000, to 1500....... when all is said and done.
