Default 97 ram 9.25 rearend trouble

I am putting pinion bearings in and I started to torqe it to 210 foot lbs and it is not smashing the crush sleeve. I then eventually got it up to 300ft. lbs. and it still didn't smash it. It has play still. Could it be a bad crush sleeve? It is a dorman brand. I took it out and put my old one in just to test it and it gets all the play out. I thought 210 lbs it is suppose to smash the sleeve. Any ideas out there? thanks

Just keep applying torque until it starts to crush. Once it starts, it will prolly require a LOT less to keep it going......

Differences in manufacturing will account for a variance in torque specs there.....

Is it possible to strip the threads on the nut????? It is very tight. I even broke a SNAP ON breaker bar but it is just 1/2'' drive.

It's a pretty serious nut..... I would be more concerned about ripping the threads off the pinion gear though... that would be.... Bad.

If it makes ya nervous, cruise up to the parts store tomorrow, and get a different crush sleeve. Better safe than sorry.

I have been thinking about going to the dodge dealer and maybe there's is more abupt to work better. I was looking at the one I got at the parts store and it is made in CHINA. I should of known that...But it is a Dorman product. I had a 6 foot cheater bar on my breaker bar and it did not smash...scary for sure

Went to dodge and got a crush sleeve. At 290 lbs. it started to smash. I then got my 25 inch pound preload. YES So far so good. Checked my gear mesh. all is good siliconed cover and tomorrow I will fill with oil and see what happens. I have my fingers and everything else crossed.....

So what happened? The suspense is killing me.
Actually I'm about to go through a similar deal and am curious as to how it worked out for you. For the best I hope.

I got the oil back in and the truck is on the road. It is as quiet as a mouse. Them crush sleeves are a bitch to smash. The genuine Dodge sleeve must be a little softer because it started to smash about 290 lbs. Everything I read it should of smashed at 210 lbs. I thought the threads was going to pull. I think that is a bad design.
