Steering box adj.
Ok so I have found a ton of help here pertaining to the steeering but, I still have slop. I have replaced all the ends and joints track bar is a moog problem solver and is tight. The slop I got is in the steering box. I have adjusted the bolt nut on top and now it is bottomed out. The steering still returns to center freely enough for me. My question is, is there any other adjustment to make to the box or is it just shot?

My uncle used to rebuild boxes. and when I bought my truck it had about 1.5" of play each way. I said soemthing about tightening it. He said don't but if you do just a little to see if it will work, just like a quarter of a turn. It worked for about a day. So I just ordered a new steering box. That's my .02 but see what others say

Sounds like it could be shot. I'm getting ready to send mine to Red-Head Steering Gears. I called yesterday and their price is $286 with a $125 core. Can't beat that considering how they rebuild it.

There are two adjustments to be made on the steering box, but, if you have worn parts internally, no amount of adjustment is going to eliminate the slop.
Grab the 01 service manual from the faq section, the procedure is in there.

Sounds like it could be shot. I'm getting ready to send mine to Red-Head Steering Gears. I called yesterday and their price is $286 with a $125 core. Can't beat that considering how they rebuild it.
They told me $32 shipping 2 day delivery. I'm assuming you are responsible for the core return shipping?
But they look like a good option.

Yep. My plan is to pull the box, drain the fluid, and ship it to them with a nice letter and my phone number. They will then call to get my debit card info, process the charge, and send me a nice, reworked box.

I bought mine from NAPA. I searched online but napa was the cheapest $153 and a $220 core I think.

heres a question.. i have about a half inch play when i turn the wheel to the left and about 2 inch play when i turn the wheel to the right. ive nvr done any steering adjustments or anything. and my alignment is perfect. would adjusting my steering box help at all with the play the steering wheel has ??
